There’s no doubt that writing your first blog post can feel daunting. You might even be suffering from writer’s block. The blinking cursor on an empty page can easily deter you from getting started with your post. So are you looking for first blog post examples for inspiration?
Whether you’ve already decided on your blog’s path or you’re still working it out, it’s a good idea to write an introductory post to set the scene for your blog.
So how do you avoid procrastination and get your first post published? Well, I’m here to help you.
In this article, I’ll share the first blog post examples that I’ve created and my reasoning for including these paragraphs.
Why to Write an Introductory Blog Post
Instead of launching straight into blog content, it’s a great idea to share your reasons for starting your blog. It’s a momentous point which you should document and celebrate.
Your first post can be used to introduce yourself and show the direction your blog is heading in.
It needs to be realised that there’s every chance that you won’t have any readers when you embark. For this reason, your introductory post is as much for you as for your readers. It’s an important milestone that you can look back to in the future.
How your Introductory Blog Post can also Benefit You.
Have you ever seen those videos where Youtubers go back and react to their first videos? Well blogging is no different really. By laying out your musings and direction in your first post, you’ll have the benefit of reviewing it later, much like an old journal.
Your first post will also lay out a plan for your blog. This is great to refer back to as you become a proficient blogger.
1. introduce Yourself – First Blog Post Examples
Like meeting someone in person for the first time, it’s best just to jump right in and start with a normal introduction. Be open and welcoming, just like you would in real life.
Example:
“Hey, I’m Andrew and welcome to my new blog. It’s (insert date) and the stars have finally aligned for me. Now is the time for me to start this blog. It’s now or never.”
2. Explain What your Blog is About
Let people know about the passion or interest that’s the crux of your blog.
Example:
“I’m putting it out to the universe now that photography rocks my world. It’s the juice that makes me get out of bed in the morning and the fire under my backside that keeps me up at night editing and curating my work.”
It’s good to have a broad idea of your blog’s direction, and you can explain that it may expand over time as you become interested in new things.
Example:
“Black and White portrait photography lights my fire right now. The thing is that I love the medium so much.”
3. Include anecdotes.
The use of a well selected anecdote or two will liven up your post and give it context.
Use entertaining stories to enliven your message and make it stick in the reader’s mind.
Seth Godin’s first post in 2002 was interestingly titled boring ! In the post, the young Seth recants how uneventful his day was as if he was penning his diary. “I was stranded today. I had to spend hours in Nyack, just over the border from New Jersey, so I shopped. Actually, I TRIED to shop, but I failed. I spent two hours at the mall, and it was boring”
My Example:
“Writing this post has definitely boosted my mood today. It all started this morning when my video drone managed to get caught up in the leaves of a willow tree and found itself in the lake”
4. Be Passionate and Excited
Readers get hooked when they can see that you are excited and fulfilled by the content. So share that passion and make it literally jump out of the page at the reader.
Example:
“I have no idea where this blog is going to take me but I’m going along for the ride and will be sharing and learning as much as possible with this medium as I possibly can!”
5 . Be Clear about What Your Blog Is and Isn’t.
All blogs need to have a clear idea of their scope. Accordingly, it’s important not to be too general.
So pick a niche and be specific about the boundaries of your blog.
Example:
“In this blog I’ll be focussing on creative photography, but I’m sure I’ll be branching out into other realms of the art. I’ll be steering away from commercial photography, only for the reason that I’m not passionate about it.”
6. Outline How You’ll Build your Community – Blog post examples
Although you’ll be writing a lot, blogging shouldn’t be a one-way street. Make sure to outline how you’ll be communicating with your audience. This is important, because If you can build a tribe around your blog brand, you’ll be miles ahead.
Turn on the comments functionality in your theme so that you can build a discussion around each post. Furthermore, if you can set up a social media presence, it’ll build your community even further.
The ultimate community-building exercise that you can do is build out a YouTube channel for your blog. This channel doesn’t necessarily need to be in the same name as your blog but you should share videos in your posts. The reason is that YouTube is especially good for engagement. It allows your readers to put a face to you. This personal connection is amazing for growing your audience.
Example:
“You’ll be able to communicate with me through (insert social media channels) plus through comments on my posts. If you’d like to message me directly, please use our Contact-Us link below.”
7. Inform your readers how often you’ll post
It’s a good idea to set an initial plan as to how often you’ll be posting and communicate that with your readers. They’ll know what to expect and you’ll have a plan to aim for.
Example:
“I’m looking forward to posting on this blog once per week. That’s my goal anyway!”

Of course your first blog post needs to be uniquely tailored to your niche and your readers.
Try to get a feel for who your audience is and communicate with them in a way that they resonate with.
